Our farm is a mixed operation. We keep horses, cattle, donkeys and a variety of fowl. The horse enterprise consists of a selection of broodmares both Irish and foreign bred who foal from March onwards. Their progeny are retained until three years of age at which stage they are broken and riding and produced for competition.
Our cattle are suckler cows which calve down in two groups, the Autumn herd from September to November and the Spring herd from January to March. They are a selection of Charolais, Limousin, Belgian Blue and Blonde D'Aquitaine cows.
We also keep some donkeys to promote the Irish breed and preserve some of our heritage. Other rare breeds such as Highland cows are also kept. They are quite the entertainers with their great big horns and hairy coats!
A selection of fowl are kept. Chickens such as Rhode Island Reds, Light Sussex and bantams produce free range eggs for us. While one of are ponds are a sanctuary for mallard and muskovy ducks and a gaggle of geese.
Throughout our farm a vast variety of wildlife also inhabit our surrounding countryside. Foxes, Badgers and Barn owls take advantage of the moonlight while song birds and thrushes provide a morning chorus.
The intention of this website is to bring news and information on our day to day lifestyle and running of our farm. This site is in its infancy so please be patient and check back for further updates and pictures.
